Walking alongside communities to uncover insights, build connections, and create intergenerational change grounded in kaupapa Māori.

Uia Te Kura is an urban Māori consultancy based in Tāmaki Makaurau, led by Deane-Rose Ngatai-Tua (Ngāti Porou, Waikato-Tainui, Pākehā). We support changemakers, organisations, and communities to clarify their purpose, bring their ideas to life, and build pathways to intergenerational change and mana motuhake.

Our approach is grounded in kaupapa Māori values, centering whānau voices and lived experiences to inform meaningful change. We believe in the power of curiosity, connection, and collaboration to weave wisdom and help communities thrive.

Uia te kura, ka whiria te māramatanga, ka ora te iwi
Seek knowledge, weave wisdom, and the people will thrive.

My experience

Deane has over a decade of experience working in both community and government spaces, including roles in community development, social design, strategy, Te Tiriti partnerships, systems change, and project management. Her journey has been shaped by her whakapapa and experiences as an urban Māori, providing a unique perspective that bridges cultures, systems, and communities.

At Uia Te Kura, we are committed to strengthening kaupapa to grow people and communities. We believe in the importance of uncovering the unique gifts, talents, mātauranga, stories, and experiences that each person and kaupapa holds. Our mahi is about helping you to uncover these insights and to weave meaningful connections that lead to real change.

My mahi

We offer a range of services designed to support and strengthen your kaupapa:
