Andree Curly James (Nga Puhi, Ngati Wai)

He mokopuna, he tāonga, he iti kahurangi.

I specialize in getting non-Māori onboard.
Removing the unknown, the scary.
Deep down people just want to do what is right but don't know how, so do nothing.
Frozen in fear.

I help non-Māori leaders integrate our culture into their corporate culture in bite size easy to take on, non-invasive, non-threatening, fun, inclusive, warm ways. I keep them safe in their perceived danger. I get them started on their journey. I have tough conversations with non-Māori about tokenism. Getting frames right. I discuss racism and how it looks and sounds.

I help leaders stand up for what they are doing, us Māori can be tyrants as we protect our world, our ways. Most can't defend their stance as they have no clue what they did in the first place. This is where Tikanga makes an entry. More so though I just want to arm people with the skill of being confident with us; so that if one day anyone has to go to a Māori event they know what is going on, why and if they are called upon can assist.

I also teach beginner Kaikaranga. I only want to get people kickstarted on their journey. Show them the pathways, the possibilities and help them connect into their wairua, mauri, ora. I am the beginning of their mastery. Tēna kotou katoa.

My experience

I am a learning & development specialist. I cover workforce development, instructional design, people and capability, executive coaching. I can work one on one of up to organizations of up to 30K. When I see a need I put my brown face on. Mostly I am called upon to do Change Management which is usually cultural shifts.

I say I deliver straight up no bull paki ways on how to get on in this world. I started 'That Iwi' because I am required to be 'That Māori, That Aunty, That Sister and yup I come from 'That Iwi'. I work full time for Ventia NZ Operations Limited. That Iwi is my hobby, my fun place, it fills my cup. My company supports these endeavors and have embraced them with open arms I am very proud I have been able to do that.

I have worked for companies such as Hirepool, Port of Auckland, ETCO, Northpower, Northern Regional Council in the last 5 years.
